WHAT PULLED ME IN
What pulled me into the group was that it was just for me, just about me and the focus was simply that. My time. For me. It wasn’t necessary to socialize during a break at the mid point of the class. I could just sit quietly and drink my tea, which I did the first few weeks. No brows were raised. There was no expectation to be anything in the circle. With that came an astounding sense of liberation. I went from being a mom, a daughter, a niece, a caregiver, driver and cook to simply being myself.
Here were the class rules: there were no rules. With that, came the freedom to write.
I’d found the right group for me in this hodge-podge of women whose lives were all so different. I discovered that a women’s writing group can be your second best family: a family with no judgement, no expectations and honest feedback.
